The 2025 RAM 3500 is a powerful pickup, capable of towing and carrying extremely heavy loads. We’re going to dive in and look at some of the features that make it the truck you want for the toughest jobs.
Built to Dominate: 3 Defining Characteristics of the 2025 RAM 3500
Extreme Engine Power
The RAM 3500 offers two engine choices. The standard engine is the legendary 6.4L HEMI V8. This naturally aspirated gasoline engine produces 405 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission that offers a high-ratio first gear for powerful acceleration and close-ratio gears for improved performance, particularly at higher speeds. This choice allows you to carry a maximum payload of 7,590 pounds in the bed.
Your second engine choice is the available High-Output 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel I6. This engine is designed to provide low vibration and low noise with extended durability. It’s also capable of producing 430 hp and a best-in-class 1,075 lb-ft of torque. It’s also paired with a TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission. With this engine and transmission setup, you can load up to 6,050 pounds in the bed.
Robust Construction
Superior carrying and towing power demands great strength, and the core of this strength is its body-on-frame construction. The RAM 3500’s frame is constructed from low-alloy ultra-high-strength steel to provide a strong, rigid frame. The engine, transmission, and drivetrain are then attached to the frame, and the vehicle’s body is bolted directly onto the frame.
The body is constructed from high-strength steel and aluminum, providing heavy-duty capability without excessive weight, which would increase fuel consumption and reduce hauling capacity. A multi-link front suspension uses multiple control arms to connect the wheels to the frame for improved control. Heavy-duty leaf springs are installed at the rear to allow the carrying or towing of extremely heavy loads.
Towing Capability
Towing capacity varies depending on the options you choose. The RAM 3500 is available in Regular Cab, Crew Cab, or Mega Cab with bed length options of 6’4″ or 8′, although the 6’4″ bed isn’t available with the Regular Cab, nor the 8′ bed with the Mega Cab. You can also choose RWD or 4WD.
Depending on your options, the 6.4L HEMI V8 can tow from 14,500 pounds with 4WD, an 8′ bed, and a Crew Cab to 18,150 pounds with RWD, an 8′ bed, and a Regular Cab. The High-Output 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel I6 can tow even heavier loads. Its capacity varies from 23,550 pounds with a Crew Cab, a 6’4″ bed, and 4WD to 36,610 pounds with a Regular Cab, an 8′ bed, and RWD.
